Cost Of Termite Treatment
There are several factors affecting the cost of termite treatment. Some of these are whether you carry out the
work yourself or use a professional contractor. What method you want to use: baiting, soil treatment, spraying or
tenting and fumigation? How big the infestation is. What type of termites they are: subterranean termites are the
worst and Formosan Subterranean termites are the worst of the worst. How quickly you want the work done and is the
termite infestation primarily indoors or outdoors? And finally, do you want a warrantee or yearly termite bond?
Cost Of Termite Treatment
So, you can see that estimating the cost of termite treatment is not at all easy without an on site inspection.
However, we have worked out a ball park figure based on a typical single or two-storey family house located within
10 miles or a pest treatment engineer.
The foundation of the house or building is a floating concrete slab and the approximate age of the
infestation is a year or less.
Although, the infestation is only less than a year old, there is already pretty extensive damage, although the
damage does seem to be localized to just one or two areas outside of the building.
There are however, mud tubes, galleries or termite tunnels running in the basement, suggesting that the termites
have been busy inside the house as well.
If this is the case and the wood termites are of a subterranean species, then there will need to be
some excavation in the ground and drilling in the walls to spread the poison.
However, access is pretty straightforward, so that should not present a problem to the exterminator. The
perimeter of the building is about 120 linear feet.
The cost of treating a typical house like this using typical termite control companies would be about $800,
but add another $100 for three-months finance and another $100 for an insurance-backed warranty, about $1,000.
What should you be looking for when inspecting your property for termite damage? Well there are several obvious
signs. Termites are supposed to eat dead trees, but if there are not any at hand, they will eat wooden houses.
They like to get into a plank of wood through the end-grain, so it is essential to always soak the ends of
planks in preservative.
You might see a procession of 'white ants' walking around your house or you might see saw dust
under the end-grain of a plank. Termites, especially subterranean termites are sensitive to light and predators so
they build mud tubes or tunnels to walk in for protection from both. These mud tubes will be stuck to
walls or link the ground to a nearby plank of wood maybe a foot or so in the air.
You can treat your own home using professional liquid termite chemicals like Termidor, Advance, Phantom and
Bora-Care, which you might be able to buy locally or get on eBay or Amazon (they do not only sell books any
more).
However, the fastest way of getting rid of termites is tenting, which involves wrapping up your home and
fumigating it for a few days with lethal gas, while you go and live elsewhere. The cost of termite treatment by
tenting and fumigating the same sort of typical home as above would be about $2,000.
